A Bathroom Icon Since 1861
Thomas Crapper & Co Ltd was founded in Chelsea in 1861. Thomas Crapper trained as a plumber before opening the world’s first bathroom showroom in 1870. Several patents and royal commissions followed, eventually earning the firm multiple Royal Warrants.
Crapper retired in 190 and died in 1910. The company passed through several owners and traded on through both World Wars, before falling dormant from the 1960s. In 1999, Simon Kirby bought and relaunched the brand with an authentic product range.
Thomas Crapper is now owned by Yorkshire-based Hartford Holdings. The brand continues to make traditional, high-quality sanitary ware – toilets, basins, taps and accessories – manufactured in Britain, with a focus on craftsmanship, longevity and low-carbon local sourcing. That heritage has also linked the brand to notable moments such as the 2011 Royal Wedding installation at Westminster Abbey.
